Ryn Shane-Armstrong

Ryn Shane-Armstrong is an independent multimedia producer, ESL and technology educator, web developer, community artist, and fervent devotee to the game of basketball. He earned a BA in Media Arts from Prescott College (Tucson Center), an MA in Community Cultural Development from the University of Melbourne, and an ESL Certification from ICAL.

Originally hailing from the American South, Ryn has lived, worked, studied and volunteered in locations all around the world including China, Australia, and many places throughout the United States. His initial experiences teaching young people came in 2005, first as an ESL instructor at a technical college in Nantong, Jiangsu, China, and then later that same year as an AmeriCorps VISTA member serving within the Portland, Oregon, public and private school systems. After a brief stint as a literacy tutor for young adults with disabilities, Ryn eventually adopted Tucson, Arizona, as a second hometown, where he now lives with his fellow English teacher and lovely wife of three years, Ms. Xu Yan.

Ryn’s primary focus within YingwenTeach is to develop and utilize appropriate information and communication strategies in order to better serve our fellow American educators. Through technology, he aims to make the process of researching, applying for, and ultimately teaching English in China a relatively painless experience for all involved. Like his colleagues, Ryn hopes his efforts will expand the mission of YingwenTeach and ensure greater friendship between the people of China and the United States.
